Exploring themes of beauty, melancholy, humor, and truth, I use mostly found objects and discarded goods as materials in my work. Although I usually begin with concrete ideas, I welcome the element of surprise, and coax seemingly unrelated objects into unity. Further guiding my vision, I use my hands to shape delicate applications; developing all aspects of the assemblage until I am convinced the elements have fully integrated
As a mixed media artist, I was greatly influenced by my early exposure to the Dada and Surrealist collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, in my hometown. I admire the work of Marcel Duchamp in particular, with his nonconformist approach best displayed in his painting " Nude Descending The Staircase" and his concept of ready-made art.
I currently maintain a studio at the Hunter's Point Shipyard in San Francisco, CA, and have lived in the City since 1989. With the transformation of trash to treasure, it is in the constant process of discovery and connection revealed through my work that keeps me inspired. By conserving energy and re-using materials, I look to have a positive impact in the world we share.
